It’s tough being a reporter these days. Breaking stories are hard to come by, and when they come, you’re not necessarily assigned to it. When you scrounge for smaller stories on the streets, it just all comes down to luck – which hasn’t been on your side much as of late. At your wit’s end, you decide to make a visit to the mysterious mannequin shop that opened up a few blocks down. Rumour has it that the string of disappearances lately is linked to that shop somehow. Any story will do for you at this point.

A small bell announces your entrance, but nobody comes to welcome you. As your eyes adjust to the darkness, you realize you’re not alone. There are figures frozen in place all around you. “Well duh, it’s a mannequin shop,” you reassure yourself. But something feels off, and the place is giving you the chills. You approach one of the figures and marvel at the realism and detail of the mannequin. But what’s that dripping out from the corner of its mouth? Is that…blood? You touch its body, which was hard but not rigid like plastic should be. Is it flesh? Stumbling back, you decide it’s high time you got going. You reach out for the door, and only then do you realize you are locked in.The hair on your neck bristles as you feel an ominous presence behind you. You gulp as you slowly turn your head around. Someone… or something, is getting closer…

Our dream was literally within our grasps. How did it turn out like this? I was part of an expedition with a team of well over 20 people, tasked with the exploration of the deep jungles of Yucatan Peninsula. Any discovery could lead to a massive breakthrough in cultural history. Our names would be known worldwide. We could leave a legacy. With hopes of a bright future, we came here. Our research led us to believe there were signs of civilization… And we were right.

Unlike other ancient Mayan cities recently rediscovered around the area, what we found had a distinct lack of architecture. There were no stone pyramids or rock alters of any sort. In fact, the living space seemed as if it was one with nature. It gave the impression that whoever lived here were genuinely intertwined with the environment. As we explored the area, we noticed something grim. One by one, members of our team had vanished without signs of struggle. One by one, just suddenly gone.

What was this twisted fate we’ve been cursed with? Did we anger a vengeful spirit? The remaining members look to me for guidance, but what can I say? I’m just as terrified as the next person. Whatever the case may be, it seems that we’re not stronger than fate. Our task is not an easy one. We must assist each other to make it out alive. I’m not going to let another member disappear on me; not a single one.

In and out, quick as a flash; within a window of 45 minutes. Your sole mission: to retrieve a confidential file of information that the public should not be aware of. But the most important thing was that you can’t leave any evidence of you having ever been there.

Black ops was a secret division of agents who carried out the darkest and most underhanded of missions, the type that would tarnish the organization’s reputation. Agents were trained to be lethal and merciless, to execute their missions perfectly with little care for anything else. It was your first mission, but failure was not an option. You knew well enough what happened to those who fail: crossing you off would be the next agent’s mission. You made one final check of your equipment. Everything had to be in top shape and readily accessible. There was absolutely no margin for error.

You closed your eyes and took a deep breath. It’s go time.

By decree of the king, all available knights and adventurers are to go forth in search of the Holy Grail. The one who finds it will be showered with riches and glory until the end of days.

Growing up on the streets, you and your gang of street rats have done anything to survive. While you haven’t murdered anyone, your petty crimes have made you all quite infamous. When one of your friends bring you this quest poster, you know you’ve found your golden ticket out of this street rat lifestyle because you know exactly where the grail is.

A few years back, a rival gang challenged you guys to survive a night in the haunted, forgotten fortress. You remember clear as day that deep down in the dungeon, a regal, golden glow emanated out. You peered in and caught a glimpse of what looks like a golden chalice before being chased out by an army of angry spirits.

You know what you must do: head back into that haunted castle, fend off the waves of restless souls and get your once a lifetime chance to live like kings.
